Dear Friends
was a truly spectacular concert! Totally worth every cent and every minute spent on getting there. Like the rabid fans we are, all 3 of us arrived 3 hours early and proceeded to hang around in the warmth of a nearby building for 2 hours... and when we decided to go early to buy merchandise, we saw a queue which snaked around two sides of the building:

and if you look really hard you can see the police van in the background. PFWAH!
so we stood in line like the good singaporeans we are, hoping that we were in the correct queue. Super reminiscent of hello kitty la! Only this time we were freezingour bu our hands off, and we were super excited and buoyant. So when we finally got into the theatre, and finally paid money for the programmes and posters (damn i've descended into merchandise fandom):
THE MUSIC WAS SUPERB!
it flowed through me and grabbed my heart and swayed my soul. And that was just the bass. The choir singing in latin was awesomely eerie, and the flamenco music was really to-dance-to. Lots of rabid fans and standing ovations, in the intermission I saw Lulu and Sephiroth queuing up for an ATM, and a few Seed cadets around the place too. And then, like the true geek convention it was, I overheard someone complaining that Sephiroth had a katana -this long- but a handle only -this long-, so it was a one-handed katana, how ridiculous!
We were disappointed when we didn't see one winged angel in the programme, though, but the other songs couldn't have been more perfect. The crowd cheered (quickly muted) when the chocobo theme came on in the FF1-3 medley, and there were standing ovations to a few pieces (must be lots of Aeris fans out there). So when nobuo acceded to an encore and the first notes of One Winged Angel were played, the audience just went BALLISTIC. What an ending! And Marcus is a new FF convert. *grin*
Seven years of playing the games and listening to the music boiled down to one night of catharsis, one of the first few large scale concerts of game music in a major concert hall in the US. This was only the 2nd time Dear Friends had come to the US, and it came to CHICAGO. Lucky i am. Happy i am. Rabid Fan i am, now.

Snowskin (mooncakes)
New skin! Winter collection. Despite how winter is half over, it's still biting cold, and today is as apt a day as ever to unveil this skin: it's -10 with windchill now.
Main photo is one of a few of my school buildings from the quad, it's Cobb taking up most of the right side, and the divinity school on the left with the inner glow. I haven't had quite enough of snow yet, which i suppose is a -good- thing, and i'm sure i'll get more of it before my time here is done. Chicago winters aren't that bad what!
Flooble's giving my blogskin problems, salicylic acid is giving my skin problems, and i'm going to watch Nobuo in concert in 15 hours. Heaven. =)

12am prata thomson road
Or its equivalent: 12:30am waffles and hotdogs and burgers and french toast and unidentifiable sandwich chicken things at Clarke's.
Thanks to Alex's new $1k car, our mobility has increased by humongous leaps and bounds, thus we have the option to be more spontaneous! So at dinner today we spontaneously decided to go out beyond the realms of Hyde Park tonight, afterwhich we spontaneously decided to wait and go to the reg and do work first. So after lots of spontaneous decisions to decide later, and spontaneous waiting for people, we spontaneously ended up in Clarke's, 24hr palace of classic American food. And we also decided that spontaneous was too many syllables and thus we spontaneously decided to substitute it with spon. Which then gives rise to:
spon camping: when you suddenly decide to go camping
re-spon: when you decide something on the spur of the moment, and then immediately decide something else
spon point: when you carry out an impulsive desire to gesticulate in a certain direction
Also, qiongz very aptly managed to time this amusing link when i was struggling with computing homework: http://www.ziff.net/404/404.htm. Yes, it's another 404, yes, it's still hilariously funny.

There's a warm wind blowing and the stars are out...
Stargazing in Yerkes. Long Roadtrip. Crossword puzzles and Sunsets.
And yes, i'm a new converted crossword puzzle geek, the ones in the redeye are strangely alluring and addictive, for some reason... maybe coz they're actually do-able.
And boy was the trip worth it, though! The observatory was really cool, and to see the roof start rotating and the floor start moving.... thrilling stuff.
Saw more stars today than i've ever seen in one night before. The sky was crystal clear, and was magical to just lie there on the roof and gaze into the heavens. A day to remember.

Pictures
Since i've flooded the previous batch off the page, there's space for more! and of course i'm procrastinating again.
My university is pretty.
It's truly freaky (in a good way) to see so many singaporeans in one place at one time. Filmfeste and the accompanying citylights dinner was a huge success, as you can see! =)
A bit of advertising for Apple, i'm succumbing, i believe. This shuffle belongs to Xela. Don't know if he's gotten his altoids box to keep it in yet.
Also, for final fantasy fans, check this spoof out. NOBUO'S COMING!!

Imagine
Imagine yourself to be a funky sociable cultural d00d. Imagine you're damn on about life and your ECAs. Imagine you're well adjusted and have dreams and visions. Imagine you're in love with your destination.
Now write that study abroad essay.

Update
So many things have been happening the past week. A rough rundown:
1. Watched a musical put up by faculty which featured rhyming verse, the president of my uni playing a trumpet, an american gothic reference, a really old woman in a policewoman outfit singing an impressive (and hilarious) aria, people in crutches and with tumors dancing around like zombies, and many spoofs of very models of attorney generals. Utterly Frivolous, utterly entertaining.
2. Tales from a little red dot. Success. 160 ppl turned up for our screening of 15, there was leftover food, royston loved it, the other singaporeans who came down had visible fun at citylights, and i danced the night away at a house party. (of course, keeping in mind that i had to go home to sleep so i could get my work done the next day.)
3. Actually finally managing to get all the work done, thus this blog post.
4. the SAMSU soccer team is in the semis, after a nailbiting last match against an international all star team. Super exciting stuff.
5. NOBUO UEMATSU IS COMING TO CHICAGO!! AND I GOT TICKETS!!
6. I can sleep now.
many photos to post, but i guess they'll have to wait.
